We spend our lives trying to push harder, reach higher, and overcome our limitations. But what if the reason you or your team feel stuck has less to do with willpower, and more to do with what the brain and body are responding to?
The name Wings with Roots represents a simple biological reality. We are better able to grow, create, connect and perform – our wings – when we have sufficient resources to meet the demands we face – our roots. When the brain registers that demands are outweighing available resources, access to connection, creativity, learning and complex thinking can become more limited or less reliable.
Our work is dedicated to helping people and organisations restore access to that capacity. Not through willpower. Not through positive thinking. Through understanding how the brain and body respond to the world around us – and learning to work with those systems, rather than against them.
Our brains are continuously weighing the demands they register against the resources they register as available.
Both demands and resources may be actual or perceived, and much of this process occurs outside conscious awareness. When the brain registers sufficient resources relative to the demands it faces, we have greater access to effective thinking, flexible problem-solving and behavioural choice. When demands outweigh the resources registered as available, attention may narrow and access to flexible, goal-directed thinking and behaviour can become more limited.
We use different methods to help people explore, understand,
and influence aspects of the Wings with Roots model.
